Yushchenko reiterated country’s Euro-Atlantic course would not change

Victor Yushchenko has met with German President Horst Koehler in Berlin, according to the President`s press-office.

      They discussed ways to develop relations between Ukraine and Germany. Mr. Yushchenko reiterated that the country’s Euro-Atlantic course would not change.

      “This is our major course and we focus our attention on following it,” he said.

      The President praised progress in Ukraine’s relations with the European Union, particularly in the area of liberalization of visa requirements.

      Mr. Koehler said he appreciated our country’s firm and clear position on foreign issues.

      “Mt position is simple: Ukraine is a very important state in the region,” he declared.

      Mr. Yushchenko said German business leaders he had met yesterday would visit Ukraine on October 21 to take part in energy and energy efficiency projects. He also invited his colleague to Ukraine.

      Later the Head of State told reporters the foreign ministries of Ukraine and Germany were considering the possibility of arranging his meeting with Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel.
