Ukraine has announced plans for a possible evacuation of its embassy in Guinea in the event of a deterioration of stability in the country, UPI reported.

A delegation from Ukraine led by Lt. Col. Yurii Klyat, headquarters chief first deputy commander of the Ukraine 56th separate helicopter detachment, recently held discussions at Ukraine`s diplomatic office in Guinea. The purpose of the meeting was to establish a plan for the evacuation of the Ukrainian Embassy in Guinea should violence break out in the West African country, the Ukraine government reported.

Guinea and the rest of West Africa have been cited by the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime as a region increasingly under threat from international criminal organizations that are exploiting weak governments to traffic illicit goods.

Ukrainian officials raised concerns about the stability of Guinea as the country approaches parliamentary elections in October and a presidential election in December.

"We have considered the whole complex of issues regarding evacuation of our citizens from the territory of Guinea," Klyat said in a statement.

"We have made a detailed analysis and have finalized the plan of joint actions starting with informing the command of our detachment, signals of interaction (and) obtaining all necessary permissions to perform flights to neighboring Liberia."
