Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko is calling for attention to Poland-Ukraine border crossings, claiming that border lines are too long and inefficient, according the Polskie Radio.

According to the president, the lines at the borders are unacceptable.

“Drivers are waiting sometimes 24 hours to get clearance to cross the border,” claims Yushchenko.

The Ukrainian President sent an official recommendation to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the heads of customs and border guards and authorities from the border regions. The Ukrainian Presidential Chancellery announced that they expect a report on the situation next week.

The problem at the Polish-Ukrainian borders has been compounded since Poland signed the Schengen Treaty in December 2007, toughening up the country’s eastern border.
