At least one person was killed and several other passengers were injured on Tuesday when an airliner crashed on a popular Thai resort island, international media reported, according to RIA Novosti.

The plane en route from Krabi in southwest Thailand reportedly came off the runway in a rain storm on Koh Samui.

According to Al Jazeera, some reports said the plane hit the control tower after skidding off the runway.

There were some 70 people, mostly foreign tourists, on board the Bangkok Airlines plane, according to a Samui airport spokesman.
