NATO Secretary General’s term extended
He to preside over events marking the 60th NATO anniversary
On 10 January, the North Atlantic Council decided to extend the Secretary General’s tenure of office to enable him to prepare and preside over the events marking the 60th anniversary of the Alliance in 2009, according to the NATO web site.
Mr. De Hoop Scheffer thanked the nations and accepted this offer.
Jaap de Hoop Scheffer is the 11th NATO Secretary General. He took up his duties in January 2004.
