More than two dozen people were missing after a ferry collided with a fishing boat off the coast of the Philippines on Thursday, according to the nation`s coast guard, according to CNN.
Of the 73 passengers and crew on board, 46 were rescued and 27 others were still missing from the sunken ferry, the Philippine Coast Guard announced. The entire fishing boat crew was accounted for after the accident.
The ferry left Manila around 9 p.m. Wednesday bound for Lubang Island, an island south of the capital city. The San Nicolas Lines operated ferry collided with the fishing vessel near Limbones Island and sank around 2:25 a.m. Thursday, the coast guard said.
With their vessel still afloat after the crash, the crew of the fishing boat helped rescue the ferry`s passengers, Lt. Comm. Arman Balilo told CNN.
Rescuers are searching for the missing, and nearby boaters have been told to look out for passengers and crew stranded in the waters.
