Victor Yushchenko has met with Turkmenistan’s President Kurbanguly Berdymukhamedov in Ashgabat, according to the President`s press-office.
He congratulated the leader on being inaugurated today.
Mr. Yushchenko and Mr. Berdymukhamedov spoke about how to develop Ukraine’s ties with Turkmenistan, particularly in the energy sector and education. They agreed to formulate a 2007-2009 cooperation plan. The Ukrainian leader said Turkmenistan was Ukraine’s strategic gas provider.
They also discussed the implementation of Ukrainian investment projects in Turkmenistan.
Mr. Yushchenko invited the newly elected leader to visit Ukraine. Mr. Berdymukhamedov accepted his invitation.
