Victor Yushchenko has arrived in Latvia. Artis Bertulis, Director of Diplomatic Protocol of Latvia’s Foreign Ministry, Raul Chilachava, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Latvia, Andris Vilcāns, Latvian Ambassador to Ukraine, and Oskars Spurdziņš, Latvia’s Finance Minister, met him at the airport of Riga, according to the President’s press-office.

The Chief of State and his wife then went to the Riga Castle to officially meet with Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga and her husband. Then Mr. Yushchenko and Mrs. Vike-Freiberga will preside over Ukrainian-Latvian negotiations and sign bilateral agreements.

The President is accompanied by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk, Emergency Minister Victor Baloha, Transport Minister Victor Bondar, Health Minister Yuriy Polyachenko and First Deputy Economy Minister Anatoly Maksyuta.

The Head of State is scheduled to meet with his Latvian counterpart, Vaira Vike-Freiberga, and then they will both preside over Ukrainian-Latvian negotiations. The President is also going to meet with Latvia’s premier and parliamentary deputy speaker.

Mr. Yushchenko is expected to meet with students and professors of the Latvian University and diplomats.  He will then visit the Occupation Museum and meet with Ukrainians residing in Latvia.
