Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel does not see any perspective for Ukraine’s joining the European Union as of today.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, she said this at a joint press conference with Prime Minister of Ukraine Victor Yanukovych on the results of their today’s meeting in Berlin.

According to her, Victor Yanukovych specified the Ukraine’s aspirations concerning the membership perspective, but at present EU is digesting the newly adopted members. However, she said, Ukraine occupies a special position in the relations with EU, and the next step will be to join forces to create a free trade zone.

In his turn, the Ukrainian Prime Minister said the German support is really important for Ukraine in the process of signing the enhanced agreement with EU for 10 years.

Victor Yanukovych stressed Ukraine received positive signals concerning the perspective of its membership in the European Union in the course of the talks.

“We received a signal that the EU doors remain open for Ukraine. And this will be set out in the new agreement for the next 10 years”, he said.
