President promises to indirectly promote democracy in Belarus

Victor Yushchenko said Ukraine would try to indirectly strengthen democracy in Belarus, according to the President’s press-office.

“Belarus is our neighbor and we will certainly try to find ways of cooperation with Belarus that stimulate democratic processes in this country,” he said.

Then the President reiterated that Ukraine’s evaluation of last week’s election in Belarus was consistent with the OSCE report.

“As President, I cannot but trust this respectable democratic European institution,” he said and added that our citizens were members of the OSCE observation mission.
