A 27-member delegation of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) led by Hanne Severinsen (Denmark, ALDE) will observe the parliamentary elections on Sunday 30 September in Ukraine alongside observers from the OSCE and NATO Parliamentary Assemblies, the European Parliament and the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), according to a PACE press-release, forwarded to UNIAN.

The members of the delegation will meet representatives of the contending political parties, of the Central Electoral Commission, and of the NGOs and the media, before travelling to the different areas of the country to observe the conduct of the ballot on polling day.

A pre-election delegation went to Ukraine at the beginning of September and formed the opinion that that the holding of elections in accordance with Council of Europe criteria was essential to give this country credibility as a democratic nation.

The observers will announce their findings at a press conference on Monday 1 October (place and time to be confirmed).
