On September 25, 2007 in the course of the visit to New York in the framework of the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk met with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Terry Davis, according to the MFA press-office.
In the course of the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the internal political situation in Ukraine on the eve of the prescheduled elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on September 30. Mr. Yatsenyuk assured the interlocutor that the elections will be held democratically and in compliance with the standards of the Council of Europe.
The parties also discussed strengthening of the role of the Council of Europe in the European system of international organizations and as an influential All-European forum.
