President Victor Yushchenko has held face-to-face talks with Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus in Vilnius, according to the President`s press-office.

The two leaders spoke about a two-day energy summit which opened on Wednesday in the Lithuanian capital and its agenda. Adamkus expressed hopes its participants would negotiate a deal to implement the Polish-Lithuanian ‘energy bridge’ project and an agreement to facilitate the implementation of the Odesa-Brody-Plock oil pipeline project.

Yushchenko and Adamkus discussed ways to develop Ukraine’s energy ties with Lithuania. The Ukrainian leader said his country could build a new nuclear power plant in Lithuania.

They also spoke about Ukraine’s September 30 parliamentary election. Adamkus described it as democratic and lawful. Yushchenko said the poll was seminal, as “Ukraine conducted this snap election in a democratic and transparent manner for the first time in its history.” “We now should form a coalition and its government and offer worthy conditions for the work of the opposition,” he said.
