Ohryzko warned Chernomyrdin about consequences

Russia`s statement may cause damage to bilateral relations

The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine states that the tonality of the latest declaration of the Russian party about the history of Ukraine, its language policy and the situation over implementation of ethnic minorities` rights may cause damage to the dynamic development of bilateral relations.

According to the information of the Ministry, Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary of the Russian Federation to Ukraine Vladimir Chernomyrdin was summoned to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry today to meet with Foreign Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Ohryzko.

The sides discussed pressing issues of the Ukrainian-Russian relations and schedules of the bilateral contacts in the nearest future.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister turned the attention of the Russian Federation Ambassador to the fact that "tonality of the latest declaration of the Russian party about the history of Ukraine, its language policy and the situation over implementation of ethnic minorities` rights may cause damage to the dynamic development of bilateral relations".

As UNIAN reported earlier, the Constitutional Court decided that, starting on December 24, 2007, all foreign films must be dubbed or sounded only in the Ukrainian language.

The State Service of Cinematography from now on has no right to issue permits to demonstration of a film if it is not dubbed, sounded or subtitled in Ukrainian language.

The press and information department of the Russian foreign ministry criticized this decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.
