Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko held a meeting with member of the European Commission for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner, according to the government’s press-office.

The Eurointegration prospects of Ukraine have been discussed during the meeting, in particular, within the context of the negotiations on new enhanced agreement with the European Union.

Benita Ferrero-Waldner hailed beginning of the official negotiations on the creation of free trade area, scheduled for 18 February this year during a visit of member of the European Commission Mr. Mendelson to Kyiv.

Separately the sides discussed energy cooperation and interaction in the Black Sea region.

“This region has tremendous potentialities for cooperation, particularly, in the energy sphere,” the Prime Minister stressed.

In her turn, the EuroCommissioner thanked the Ukrainian side for hosting the Conference of Foreign Ministers of the EU member-states and the Black Sea region states which took place in Kyiv today. The parties discussed possibilities f creating two-way Early warning mechanism (EWM) for crisis management in the energy sphere.

At that Yulia Tymoshenko noted that new Government of Ukraine upholds a stand on removing any mediators between Ukraine and Russia in gas supply.

Besides, the Prime Minister and EuroCommissioner discussed a schedule of their meetings for the upcoming months.
