Detectives with the State Bureau of Investigation have detained a group of fraudsters who demanded a bribe of $570,000 from a former defense industry official for his alleged appointment to a senior post at Ukroboronprom.

"Detectives with the Kyiv office of the State Bureau of Investigation, together with the Military Prosecutor’s Office, exposed a group who demanded $570,000 from a former employee of SE Ukrspetsexport for assistance in his appointment to a senior position in Ukroboronprom," the statement says.

According to the SBI, the group consisted of four persons who posed as confidants of President Zelensky holding positions at the President's Office.

Four people were detained while receiving part of the funds in the amount of $250,000. The sting raid was held at one of the offices on Bankova Street, in a building located opposite of the President's Office HQ, according to the SBI.

The crime is qualified as grand fraud (Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
