Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko has said the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the city rose by 68 in the past day.

"In the past 24 hours, the number of Kyiv residents who tested positive [for the coronavirus] increased by 68. As of today, there are 1,651 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the capital city," he said during an online briefing on May 6.

According to Klitschko, 21 women aged 23 to 76 and 45 men aged 19 to 76 are among those infected. In addition, one four-year-old girl and one five-year-old boy tested positive for the coronavirus.

Moreover, 17 of the new cases have been recorded in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra monastery.

Klitschko said 24 new patients had been hospitalized, while the rest were self-isolating, undergoing treatment at home under the supervision of doctors.

Another eight Kyiv residents have recovered over the past day. In total, 99 people have already recovered from the coronavirus in the capital city.
