The Ukrainian national team won five medals on the first day of the Paralympic Winter Games 2018 started Friday, March 9, in the South Korean city of PyeongChang.

Ukraine dominated the vision impaired events with gold and bronze in the men's 7.5km with Vitaliy Lukyanenko and Anatolii Kovalevskyi respectively. Belarus' Yury Holub finished with silver.

Neutral Paralympic Athlete Ekaterina Rumyantseva took gold in the women's 6km standing ahead of compatriot Anna Milenina. Bronze went to Ukraine's Liudmyla Liashenko.

Benjamin Daviet gave France its second gold of the day in the men's 7.5km standing. Canada's Mark Arendz took silver and Ukraine's Ihor Reptyukh the bronze medal.

Neutral Paralympic Athlete Mikhalina Lysova won the women's 6km vision impaired followed by Ukraine's Oksana Shyshkova and Belarus' Sviatlana Sakhanenka.

The 2018 Winter Paralympics will run from March 9 through March 18.
