More Javelins to be produced, including for Ukraine, Lithuania
Raytheon-Lockheed Martin Javelin joint venture has won $307.5 million modification contract for Javelin Weapon System full-rate production for Australia, Estonia, Lithuania, Turkey Taiwan and Ukraine.
Work is estimated to be completed by Aug. 31, 2021, the United States Department of Defense said in a statement Wednesday, according to DefenseWorld.
Javelin is a light infantry surveillance and anti-armor weapon system.
As UNIAN reported earlier, in early July, Ukrainian officials refuted the reports by a number of Russian news agencies about the alleged malfunctioning of recently received Javelins. The Russian-favored disinformation piece alleged that U.S.-supplied ATGMs had certain technical flaws and that Ukrainian missile developers had allegedly complained about them to the National Security and Defense Council.
Tina Kaidanow, the State Department’s acting assistant secretary for political-military affairs, said such reports represented “propaganda of the worst kind.”
