Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has addressed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) to immediately take up the issue of the return of Ukrainian guardsman Vitaliy Markiv to Ukraine.

"I ask you to forget about the political differences between the new government and the unchanged heads of these departments and make every effort to return former soldier of the Kulchytsky battalion of the National Guard Vitaliy Markiv. Until then, I instruct the Ukrainian diplomats in Italy to constantly stay in touch with our veteran," Zelensky said, according to the president's press service.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian guardsman Vitaliy Markiv, accused of involvement in the murder of Italian photographer Andrea Rocchelli in Donbas in 2014, was sentenced to 24 years in prison by the Italian court in the city of Pavia.
