German authorities have confirmed their readiness to intensify negotiations in the Normandy format (Ukraine, Germany, France, and Russia), says Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Andrij Melnyk.

"The German Federal government expressed concern about the tragic deaths of four Ukrainian soldiers as a result of the shelling near Pavlopil and reaffirmed their readiness to intensify the Normandy negotiation process," the ambassador wrote on Twitter.

As UNIAN reported earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, following the deadly shelling on Aug 6, called on the Normandy Four leaders to hold a new meeting as soon as possible.

French President Emmanuel Macron during a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart said that he intends on August 19 to discuss with Russian President Vladimir Putin the need to achieve concrete results in the Normandy format toward the Donbas settlement.

Also, following a telephone conversation between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia, the Office of the President of Ukraine reported that working groups are preparing drafts of documents to be signed by the Normandy Four leaders.
