Elections in occupied Donbas to be held only under Ukrainian laws – Razumkov
Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov has said elections in the temporarily occupied territory of Donbas could be held only under the laws of Ukraine.
When asked during a Svoboda Slova [Freedom of Speech] panel show on Ukraine's ICTV channel about allegations that the Central Election Commission (CEC) was allegedly dissolved for possible elections in Russia-occupied Donbas, which allegedly requires a new CEC composition, Razumkov said: "This does not require a new composition of the CEC, because elections in the temporarily occupied territory could be held only under the laws of Ukraine."
In addition, answering a question whether it is planned to extend the law on the special order of local self-government in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions and when it could happen, he said: "I think we still have time for a more thorough analysis and elaboration of various scenarios for the development of the situation. And only after that it will be correct to discuss this topic."
