The chairperson of the party is appointed for a four-year term.

Addressing his peers before the vote, Korniyenko outlined the party's priorities. He said the party charter needed a reboot. "Rebooting the power, building up the party, seeking political solutions to the country's development are our main tasks at the new stage of the party's growth," he said.

Korniyenko also announced that there would be initiatives to amend legislation on political parties. "We will soon initiate changes to the legislation on political parties," he said. According to him, the law on political parties is "obsolete."

Prior to Korniyenko's appointment, the party's congress decided to satisfy an application filed by Dmytro Razumkov on his resignation as head of the party over his work as parliament speaker.
