NATO chief arrives in Ukraine, praises joint exercises
Joint Ukraine-NATO disaster response exercises are an opportunity to learn together how to save lives, according to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who made a speech at the Yavoriv training ground in Lviv region, at the opening ceremony of Ukraine-2015 field exercise of the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center, according to an UNIAN correspondent.
Stoltenberg stressed that the exercises are not of a military nature, but instead aimed at saving lives in disasters, in a joint effort of NATO member states and the partner states.
NATO Secretary General also recalled that Ukraine knows what disasters are, therefore it should be ready to respond, along with its partners.
Jens Stoltenberg arrived in Ukraine earlier today on a two-day visit at the invitation of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
This is the first Ukraine trip of Stoltenberg since his appointment as NATO chief.
Attending the National Security and Defense Council meeting on the reform of the security sector and defense is on the visit’s second day agenda.
