Poroshenko: Pope accepts invitation to visit Ukraine

Pope Francis met with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Vatican, accepting the president’s invitation to visit Ukraine, according to a posting on Poroshenko’s Facebook page.

"A very touching meeting with Pope Francis. He assured me that he would never forget about Ukraine and pray for peace in our country," reads the statement.

"I asked the Pope to complete of the beatification of Metropolitan Andriy Sheptytsky, as well as to start the procedure in respect of Bishop Stepan Chmil, who used to be the Pope’s spiritual mentor in Argentina. I invited His Holiness to visit Ukraine, and he accepted the invitation," said Poroshenko.
