Obama calls Ukraine Russia’s "client state"

“Even as their economy severely contracts, Russia is pouring resources in to prop up Ukraine and Syria— client states that they saw slipping away from their orbit," said Barack Obama, according to the video clip released by RFE/RL earlier today.

However, the word “client” is missing in the subtitles to the video. Besides, it was not initially included in the printout of Obama’s speech released by the White House ahead of the actual address. Therefore, many have concluded that the emphasis was the U.S. President’s ad lib.
