Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has expressed hope that U.S. President Donald Trump during his first meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin will convince him of the futility of attempts to pressure Ukraine.

"We stand for the preservation of the Normandy format and the Minsk agreements, and we will only welcome it, and we have confirmation of this – the increased role of the United States in this process, the first fact of the meeting of the American president with President Putin in order to convince him of the absolute futility of attempts to pressure Ukraine," Poroshenko told Ukrainian TV channels on Sunday, June 25.
