Ukrainian Deputy Health Minister Viktor Liashko says the novel COVID-19 coronavirus is spreading more slowly in Ukraine than in countries where the number of confirmed coronavirus cases is the highest, such as Italy, Spain, and the United States.

"If we look at the statistics, the periods, during which many countries report from 100 to 1,200 cases, as we have today, we could name the following figures: six days in Italy, seven days in Spain, eight days in the U.S., and over nine days in Ukraine," he told a briefing on April 5.

Liashko added that the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases across Ukraine had reached 1,251. He says the number of cases has increased by 14% over the past 24 hours.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the number of total confirmed COVID-19 coronavirus cases had exceeded 1.2 million worldwide. The total death toll worldwide was 64,774 people. Some 246,893 people have recovered.

As of 10:00 Kyiv time on April 5, Ukraine had confirmed 1,251 cases of COVID-19, including 32 deaths and 25 recoveries.
