Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Ukraine, Dr. Sc. (Phys.-Math.) Anatoly Zagorodny says the analysis of the latest data on the number of newly hospitalized COVID-19 patients shows that coronavirus cases in the country become milder.

"The analysis shows that the probability of a mild course of the disease has significantly increased among the newly infected. This is also evidenced by the death toll. Comparing the new data with the forecast of June 19, we can say that the rate of the epidemic spread is declining, although it still remains high," he told the Ukrainian online news outlet Obozrevatel on July 1.

Zagorodny confirmed the statistics earlier announced by a Health Ministry representative that only 20% of new patients need hospitalization.

Meanwhile, about 60% of newly infected since the beginning of June had no symptoms at the time of seeking medical care.
