Head of Ukraine-controlled Donetsk Regional State Administration Pavlo Kyrylenko says the number of newly confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the region grew significantly in the past 24 hours, that is by 42 as of the evening of Sunday, June 14.

This is a record number of new cases per day recorded in the region since the start of the pandemic, the official says.

People aged five to 80 are among those infected. Most of new patients (eight persons) are from the town of Kramatorsk.

Another six patients, mostly healthcare workers, are from the town of Druzhkivka, while a five-year-old boy who tested positive for the coronavirus lives in the town of Selydove.

In total, 334 people have contracted the virus since the COVID-19 outbreak in Donetsk region. As many as 143 patients have already recovered and been discharged from the region's medical institutions, while six people have died.

The city of Mariupol is in the lead by number of COVID-19 cases confirmed in the region, as over 100 residents have contracted the coronavirus.
