Militants attack Ukrainian troops about 80 times overnight
The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions and civilian areas in eastern Ukraine about 80 times in the last day, including 40 attacks from 18:00 to midnight, the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) wrote on its Facebook page on Wednesday.
As of 06:00 Kyiv time on July 22, the militants continued shelling of ATO forces near the villages of Opytne and Pisky, and the town of Krasnohorivka.
"At 03:16 Kyiv time, the Russian mercenaries used infantry fighting vehicles against our positions near the Donetsk airport," the report says.
At 05:10 Kyiv time on July 22, pro-Russian gangs fired banned 122mm artillery and 120mm mortars on ATO forces near the village of Berezove.
The militants also fired tank shells and mortars on the village of Opytne.
Russian proxies fired 120mm mortars and tank shells on the positions of the Ukrainian armed forces near the villages of Vodiane and Novhorodske.
Using small arms, grenade launchers and 82mm mortars, Russian invaders provoked ATO fighters to return fire along the whole demarcation line, namely near the towns of Maryinka, Krasnohorivka, Zolote and Avdiyivka, as well as near the villages of Pisky, Opytne, Vodiane, Stariy Aidar, Novhorodske, Shyrokyne, Maiorske, Stanytsia Luhanska, Lozove and near the Donetsk airport.
"The Ukrainian military are firmly holding their defensive positions and acting confidently in all sections of the defense," the press center said.
