Militants attack Ukrainian troops more than 50 times within just four hours
The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions and civilian areas in eastern Ukraine 86 times in the last day, including more than 50 attacks from 18:00 to midnight, the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) wrote on its Facebook page on Thursday.
"At 21:15 Kyiv time, the militants began firing on the village of Novhorodske from the town of Horlivka. They were firing 122mm artillery on residential areas for 40 minutes. In addition, they fired banned 122mm howitzers and 120mm mortars on the ATO forces near the town of Avdiyivka, the villages of Novhorodske, Pisky, Leninske and Opytne," the press center said.
At 22:05 Kyiv time, a sabotage and reconnaissance group of militants of up to 10 people tried to penetrate one of the positions of ATO forces near the village of Opytne. Ukrainian military repulsed saboteurs.
"As of 06:00 Kyiv time on July 23, the Kremlin mercenaries fired 120mm mortars on ATO forces near the villages of Rozsadky and Lozove. Over the last night, they fired small arms and mortars more than 10 times on the positions of the Ukrainian armed forces near the town of Maryinka not far from Donetsk," the press center wrote.
