Russian proxies attack Ukrainian troops more than 80 times overnight
The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine more than 80 times overnight, the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) wrote on its Facebook page on Wednesday.
"The defenders of Ukraine repelled two attacks of the Russian mercenaries near the towns of Schastia and Avdiyivka," the report says.
From 18:00 to midnight on July 28, the militants fired guns and mortars on ATO forces near the towns of Krasnohorivka, Avdiyivka, and Maryinka, as well as near the villages of Pershe Travnia, Maiorske, and Mykolaivka. They also fired small arms in other areas.
"According to updated information, at 16:30 Kyiv time, Russian proxies launched an attack on the ATO troops near Schastia with the use of 120mm and 82mm mortars and tanks. Their group numbered about 100 mercenaries. The fight lasted for nearly three hours. The enemy experienced casualties and retreated," the press center said.
In addition, according to the report, at 20:20 Kyiv time, about 30 militants made an attempt to occupy a fortified position of Ukrainian troops near Avdiyivka. Having received a proper rebuff, the enemy fled.
The Ukrainian military had no casualties in the military clashes near Schastia and Avdiyivka.
As of 06:00 Kyiv time on July 29, Russian proxies fired artillery systems on ATO forces near the villages of Stepne, Novozvanivka, Troitske, Mykolaivka, and the town of Popasna.
