"From the militant-controlled village of Oleksandrivka, the Russian-backed terrorists fired mortars, automatic grenade launchers and small arms on the "Maryinka" checkpoint, which is protected by the Ukrainian border guards and the Ukrainian armed forces. About 50 mortar shells and 150 shots from automatic grenade launchers were fired on the Ukrainian army positions," the report says.
In addition, the militants fired mortars on the "Maiorske" checkpoint.
There are no casualties among the Ukrainian military, the press service said.
As UNIAN reported earlier, one Ukrainian soldier was killed and another nine were wounded in the Donbas conflict zone in the last 24 hours.
The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 101 times overnight, using banned artillery systems 12 times, mortars 38 times, small arms and rocket-propelled grenade launchers 62 times, and tanks five times.
