"The occupiers repeatedly fired on our positions near the villages of Mayorsk and Luhanske, which are in the Artemivsk sector. They used small arms, grenade launchers and machine guns of various types," the ATO press center wrote on Facebook.
Areas around the occupied city of Donetsk were the hottest spots, it said.
In particular, the villages of Pisky [near the ruined Donetsk airport] and Opytne and the town of Krasnohorivka were shelled with the use of large-caliber guns and small arms. The town of Adviyivka and the village of Novhorodske were attacked with the use of grenade launchers. What is more, Avdiyivka was under sniper fire on Wednesday morning, and an 82mm mortar was used to shell Opytne in the afternoon.
Despite the escalation, Ukrainian troops continued to strictly observe the ceasefire, the ATO press service informed.
