Militants attack ATO forces 40 times on Jan 15, get fire back near Triokhizbenka
The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 40 times on January 15, the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) wrote on Facebook early Saturday.
"The situation was most tense near the town of Maryinka. The invaders fired 82mm and 120mm mortars thrice on our positions, as well as small arms and rocket-propelled grenades," the report says.
In the Mariupol sector, the militants fired 120mm and 82mm mortars on the village of Vodiane, which is in the so-called "gray zone."
Near the temporarily occupied town of Horlivka, the occupiers fired small arms and heavy machine guns on the Ukrainian positions near the village of Mayorsk, as well as an anti-aircraft gun near the village of Novhorodske.
"The shelling is continuing near the Donetsk airport. The invaders systematically fire on the Ukrainian defenders near the villages of Opytne, Pisky, and south of the town of Avdiyivka. That night, they used only small arms and rocket-propelled grenades there," the report reads.
In addition, it is reported that the organized criminal groups again violated the ceasefire in Luhansk region. The village of Triokhizbenka came under enemy fire from small arms, rocket-propelled grenades and heavy machine guns.
In order to prevent casualties among the personnel and the local population, the ATO forces were forced to open fire from allowed weapons, after which the militants stopped firing.
In general, the pro-Russian illegal military formations violated the ceasefire 40 times in the Donbas conflict zone in the past 24 hours. After midnight, the enemy has already attacked ATO forces several times.
