Russian proxies attack ATO troops 47 times in last day
The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 47 times in the past 24 hours, the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) wrote on Facebook early on Thursday.
The situation was most tense near the militant-held city of Donetsk and the separatist-controlled town of Horlivka.
The enemy fired grenade launchers of various systems and heavy machine guns on the Ukrainian fortified positions in the villages of Opytne, Pisky, Troyitske, Zaitseve, Novhorodske and Luhanske. In addition, the militants fired 82mm mortars on the town of Maryinka and the village of Opytne.
The occupiers also fired mortars, anti-aircraft guns and infantry fighting vehicles six times on the Ukrainian positions not far from the town of Krasnohorivka.
"The Russian-backed mercenaries again used banned weapons. They fired 122mm artillery system on our fortified positions in the direction of Horlivka coal mine 6-7," the press center said.
In the Luhansk sector, the militants fired small arms on the Ukrainian positions near the village of Triokhizbenka.
