Russian proxies attack Ukraine troops 61 times in last day
The combined Russian-separatist forces attacked Ukrainian army positions in eastern Ukraine 61 times in the past 24 hours, which is almost half more than in the previous day and night, according to the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO).
"Using mortars of various calibers, the Russian-backed mercenaries fired on our positions almost along the entire demarcation line," the report says.
In the Donetsk sector, the militants attacked ATO forces in the town of Avdiyivka four times, fired on the village of Novhorodske three times and on the village of Zaitseve twice. The militants still intensify their fire activity, simultaneously using different types of weapons: mortars, heavy machine guns, grenade launchers, and engage snipers.
"The enemy has also been stepping up its activity in the Mariupol sector, simultaneously using banned weapons. In particular, the occupiers fired 120mm mortars on our positions near the village of Talakivka, as well as 82mm mortars near the village of Shyrokyne," the ATO headquarters said.
What is more, the militants attempted to storm one of the Ukrainian positions near the village of Hranitne. The Ukrainian military had to fire back from machine guns and small arms in order to repel the enemy and prevent a sabotage and reconnaissance group's penetration into the fortified position. It made them retreat.
The situation in the Luhansk sector was also tense. The invader fired mortars on the Ukrainian positions near the village of Novozvanivka.
The situation is getting worse in Donbas, but the Ukrainian armed forces are ready for drastic changes and firmly hold their defense lines, the press center said.
