Turkey has no plans to buy Su-35 fighter jets from Russia, the country's Defense Minister, Hulusi Akar has stated.

Akar called "false" that reports claiming Turkey would soon receive the Su-35s, Deutsche Welle wrote with reference to Turkey's Haberler.

The top defense official says Turkey remains a U.S. partner on F-35 development and hopes its rights will be respected.

Information that the Turkish authorities were considering buying Russian Su-35 fighter jets earlier appeared in some local media.

U.S. President Donald Trump earlier said the United States was suspending F-35 sales to Turkey following Ankara's move to acquire Russian-made S400 air defense systems, whose deliveries began July 12.

Plans to purchase Russian air defense systems have sparked serious concern in Washington.
