Russian air strikes kill 40 Syrians – Ukraine intel
At least 40 civilians in Syria were killed as a result of Russian air strikes, the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry reported.
"Another fact of Russian war crimes in Syria has been established," reads the report. "On January 16, as a result of air strikes of the Russian aircraft on civilian targets in the city of Raqqa, more than 40 civilians were killed."
"This information is confirmed by the monitoring group of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights," the report says.
It is noted that on January 19, the armed forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad supported by the Russian Air Force continued offensive operations in the provinces of Daraa and Homs.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on September 30, 2015, the Russian aerospace forces began to carry out air strikes on Syrian territory, allegedly on the positions of the Islamic State. However, numerous reports in foreign media claim that Russia's strikes mostly hit targets not related to IS.
According to earlier reports, the Russian air strikes in Syria are accompanied by Assad's army ground operation against Syrian opposition.
