The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the world exceeded 4.5 million patients as of the morning of May 16.

As many as 4,570,370 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases had been reported as of 16:32 on May 16, according to the Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

The overall death toll is 308,317 people, while 1,652,642 coronavirus patients have already recovered.

The three countries most affected by the coronavirus pandemic include the United States (1,444,870 confirmed cases), Russia (272,043), and the United Kingdom (238,004).

The highest death toll was recorded in the United States (87,595 people), the United Kingdom (34,078), Italy (31,610), Spain (27,563), and France (27,532).

As many as 188 countries have been affected by the virus.
