Earlier, Naftogaz CEO Andriy Kobolev had complained that Ukraine paid too much for Russian gas compared to the EU, Ukraine Today reports.

Last June, Russia stopped its gas supplies to Ukraine, demanding payments as part of foreign political pressure exerted by the Kremlin on the new Ukrainian government in the wake of Russian annexation of Crimea and support for anti-government militants in eastern Ukraine. A deal providing for a temporary discount was later signed in October to cover the winter months.
