Defense sector financing will be increased to almost 6% of GDP in 2021 / Photo from Ukroboronprom

Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksiy Danilov has said the amount of financing of the country's security and defense sector planned in the draft budget for 2021 is fixed at 5.92% of GDP, while the corresponding figure for 2020 was 5.45% of GDP.

"The increase in expenditures is Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's principled stance on national security issues," the NSDC's press service quoted Danilov as saying.

  • The Cabinet of Ministers, Ukraine's government, plans to submit the draft 2021 State Budget to the Verkhovna Rada, the country's parliament, by September 15.
