Director of Institute of Electric Welding Borys Paton has appealed to leader of the Servant of the People Party Kyiv team Oleksandr Tkachenko about the need to take steps to reconstruct the Paton Bridge named after his father.

"Starting from mid-2018, E.O. Paton Electric Welding Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine has repeatedly appealed to the leadership of the Kyiv City State Administration about the critical state of the Paton Bridge across the Dnipro River in Kyiv which, according to a survey carried out by V.N. Shimanovsky Ukrainian Institute of Steel Construction, was recognized as such that is in disrepair. Unfortunately, I have to admit that the decisions taken at meetings at the Kyiv City State Administration and Kyivavtodor [a Kyiv municipal enterprise engaged in road repairs] regarding the need for a detailed survey of the technical condition of the bridge's main beams and the development of the project for its reconstruction have not yet been carried out," the appeal says.

Paton warns that further delays may lead to the bridge collapse or emergency closure.

"As a result, not only can the architectural monument, which the Paton Bridge is, be lost; it's also road traffic between the two Dnipro banks, which will lead to a traffic collapse in Kyiv," the academician said.

"I am asking you and your colleagues from the Servant of the People Party to intervene and contribute to the Kyiv City State Administration and Kyivavtodor starting their work on the reconstruction of the Paton Bridge, which is in disrepair, as soon as possible," he said.
