The Swedish-founded furniture giant IKEA Group headquartered in Delft (the Netherlands) intends to open the first store in Kyiv after the launch of e-commerce, which is scheduled for spring 2020.

"Remaining fully committed to our vision of creating a better everyday life for many people, IKEA is pleased to share updated information about its plans to enter the Ukrainian market. In order to make the IKEA range of functional products with attractive design and prices as affordable as possible to more people in Ukraine, the company decided to start e-commerce first. The expected launch date is in the spring of 2020," the company's press service told UNIAN on December 3.

At the same time, IKEA plans to open the first store in Kyiv as soon as possible, after the launch of e-commerce.

As UNIAN reported earlier, IKEA planned to open its first store in Kyiv-based Ocean Mall in late summer 2019. In July 2018, IKEA began recruiting employees for its first store in Ukraine. The company later postponed the opening ceremony to the end of 2019.

In October 2018, the founder of the Mandarin Plaza Group, Vagif Aliyev, announced that IKEA might open its second store in Ukraine with an area of 30,000 square meters at Kyiv's new shopping mall Lisovyi on Brovarsky Prospekt in early 2020. He also said that IKEA shops would be open in other shopping centers under construction.

The IKEA Group includes manufacturing companies, store distributions sites, pick-up and order points, as well as 315 retail outlets in 27 countries. In total, the IKEA Group operates in 42 countries.
