Ukraine is able to adequately resist Russia in case a major war breaks out, as Ukraine's army demonstrated in 2014, says a military expert, Colonel (Rtd) Oleh Zhdanov.

At the same time, Russia would not benefit  from a large-scale war with Ukraine, Zhdanov told Glavred.

"In the case of a large-scale offensive for which Russia has no sufficient forces and resources, they would get stuck in a protracted position war in the territory of Ukraine, even taking into account the fact that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are in a state of stagnation," the expert says.

Earlier, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov stated that the strengthening of air defenses remains important in the face of an actual possibility of Russia employing its airforce in the case of an escalation of the ongoing conflict.
