Poroshenko to Abromavičius: Use ‘guillotine’ against bureaucracy
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko urged Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Aivaras Abromavičius to use a "guillotine" against bureaucracy on Wednesday at a meeting of the National Council on reforms, according to Ukrainian news service Insider.
"I have no doubt that our Ministry of Economy will also take leadership in issues of deregulation, and we will soon be able to demonstrate a determination in reducing the state apparatus by the example of the ministry," Poroshenko said.
"In spite of all attempts to reduce bureaucracy and introduce deregulation, officials are still trying to adapt to the [new] conditions and continue their work," he said.
"It seems to me that you have to scare them with the guillotine. I ask you, Aivaras, to used this guillotine right now. The people will welcome it of you," Poroshenko said.
"The less significant the role of the bureaucracy, the fewer regulatory authorities, [then] the less reason to take bribes."
