Poroshenko was responding to a suggestion that the president had helped his son to become an MP, according to Ukrainian online newspaper Ukrainian Pravda.

"My son entered the Verkhovna Rada through a majority district as an independent politician, gained one of the largest numbers of votes in a majority district, and has the right as a 30-year-old [man] to choose his own path," Poroshenko said.

At the same time, he has said that the journalists have the right to evaluate his son as a politician and to enquire about his activities of the president, and the president is obliged to answer these questions.

"I believe that this is also a sign of a democratic country, for which I’m fighting," Poroshenko said.
