Speaking at the 40th session of the UN Human Rights Council, she said the Ukrainian authorities had no access to Russian-occupied Crimea and part of Donbas to monitor how citizens' rights had been observed in the five past years.

She said the Ukrainians were illegally detained and abducted, they were mistreated and beaten.

Denisova reiterated that ill-treatment was also observed in relation to 69 political prisoners and 24 prisoners of war who are now being held in the territory of the Russian Federation and temporarily occupied Crimea.

"I think combining all the forces and possible methods, the influence of the UN on this situation is an effective way to defend the rights and freedoms of our citizens," she added.
