U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and German Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet in Berlin to discuss Ukraine, among other issues, on May 7.

"On May 7, he [Mike Pompeo] will arrive in Berlin, where he will meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel and Foreign Minister Maas to discuss issues of mutual concern, such as Ukraine, Russia, China, Syria, and the Western Balkans," the U.S. Department of State's press service has reported.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the framework of the Munich Security Conference in February this year discussed ways to counter Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

In April, Merkel underscored the need for the release of Ukrainian sailors captured by Russia in the Kerch Strait last November.

On April 22, following U.S. President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Merkel congratulated Ukraine's President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky on his election win.
